Ocean Freight Rate Trends in Late March

1. U.S. to Canada Route

Ocean freight rates have continued to decline and will remain valid until the end of March. The market remains in a standoff, with some routes reaching a temporary price floor. However, shipping carriers are planning rate increases in April. Meanwhile, port congestion is increasing for U.S. East Coast shipments from various Chinese ports.

2. Northwest Europe Full Container Shipping

Ocean freight rates for the OA group are valid until March 26, with expectations of being extended until the end of the month.

3. China HEDE to Los Angeles Port

This week, expedited ocean freight rates from China to Los Angeles remain at USD 3,500 per 40HQ, while standard rates are at USD 2,500 per 40HQ.
For Shanghai routes, the HDX service sails on Thursdays, with a direct transit time of 13 days. Upcoming estimated time of departure (ETD) schedules include:

• Shanghai ETD: March 27 / March 30
• Huanghua ETD: March 27

Mid-to-Late March Ocean Freight Rate Update

1. U.S. West Coast (USWC) Route

• USD 1,750–1,850 per 40HQ (OA Group)
• Special rate slots from other carriers are available at USD 1,600–1,700 per 40HQ

2. U.S. East Coast (USEC) Route

• USD 2,800–2,950 per 40HQ (OA Group)
• Other carrier rates range from USD 2,650–2,800 per 40HQ

3. Canada Route

• Vancouver: USD 1,750–1,850 per 40HQ
• Toronto / Montreal: USD 4,300–4,450 per 40HQ (OA Group)

4. Europe & Other Routes

• European main ports: Rates are adjusting between USD 2,200–2,400 per 40HQ (OA Group) and valid for departures until March 26.

Ocean Freight & Market Transit Time Analysis

China to Los Angeles (ZIM East China Service - ZX2 Biweekly)

• Shanghai Departure (Saturday) → Ningbo (Monday) → Los Angeles (Sunday)
• Transit times: Shanghai (15 days), Ningbo (13 days)

China to U.S. East Coast & Gulf Coast

• Post-holiday capacity remains stable with balanced supply and demand.
• Overall shipment volume is declining, leading to fewer available options for East Coast-bound services.
• Schedule disruptions and blank sailings may cause longer transit times for East Coast shipments.

China to U.S. Southwest

• Post-holiday capacity remains stable, and supply-demand conditions are normal.

China to Canada

• Intermittent blank sailings are observed.
• Post-holiday capacity is relatively loose, and return-trip capacity is gradually recovering.
• Rail capacity remains tight, leading to intermittent delays of up to three weeks for rail transshipment.

China to Europe

• Capacity is moderate, but the Red Sea situation is causing most carriers to reroute via the Cape of Good Hope, adding 7–10 days to transit times.
• Rotterdam port congestion is affecting schedules for vessels transiting through this hub.

China to Australia

• Shipping lines are implementing rate increases of USD 600 per 40HQ in mid-to-late March.
• Capacity remains moderate, and transit schedules have largely stabilized.

Important Notes:
