TikTok Rolls Out AI Keyword Filter to Personalize "For You" Feed

TikTok has announced an upgrade to its content filtering capabilities with the launch of a new "AI-Powered Keyword Filter." This advanced tool leverages artificial intelligence to help users more accurately block unwanted content from their personalized "For You" feed.

Previously, users could only manually input specific keywords to filter out certain topics. The new AI-driven enhancement automatically detects and expands the filter to include synonyms and related terms.

For example, if a user chooses to filter out the term “renovation,” the system will intelligently recognize and also filter out similar terms such as “remodeling” and “refurbishment.” TikTok notes that users will be able to review the AI-generated keyword list and choose to retain or remove any suggested terms.

In addition, TikTok has increased the maximum number of keywords that users can add from 100 to 200. The platform is also planning to improve the bulk keyword addition feature, making the filtering process even more convenient. TikTok stated that as users continue to engage with this tool, the AI’s recognition capabilities will improve over time, delivering even more precise filtering results.

Beyond the keyword filter, TikTok has also announced the global rollout of its “Manage Topics” feature. Initially tested in the U.S. in August 2024, this feature enables users to customize the content mix displayed on their "For You" feed.

By navigating to “Settings” → “Content Preferences” → “Manage Topics,” users can adjust the frequency of content recommendations for specific categories such as sports, travel, humor, dance, and food using intuitive sliders. TikTok emphasized that this functionality aims to deliver a more personalized and controllable content experience for users worldwide.
