Amazon Prime Delivery Hits Record Speeds, Boosts FBA Seller Success

July 30, according to media reports, Amazon has significantly improved its Prime delivery speeds. This year, their same-day and next-day delivery services have already delivered over 5 billion packages, marking a more than 30% increase year-over-year and setting a new record.

Amazon stated that this year, it has achieved the fastest Prime delivery speeds ever in both the U.S. and globally. Over 5 billion items were delivered globally on the same day or the next day, representing a more than 30% increase year-over-year. The accelerated delivery speeds have also aided the success of small and medium-sized businesses. The majority of these 5 billion items were fulfilled by Amazon Logistics on behalf of independent sellers, with over 60% of Amazon's sales coming from independent sellers.

In the U.S., Amazon offers free Prime delivery on over 300 million items, compared to just 1 million when the membership program was launched in 2005. The same-day delivery service has expanded to over 120 metropolitan areas. In comparison, the selection of items available to Prime members today is 20 times larger than at launch, and the delivery speed is now twice as fast.

Amazon attributed the increased speed to the regionalization of its delivery network, which reduces the distance goods travel to reach customers. In the first half of 2024, the distance between Amazon's U.S. sites and customers has decreased by nearly 10% year-over-year.

Additionally, Amazon has leveraged machine learning algorithms to predict product demand and optimize inventory arrangements. By expanding this initiative in the first half of this year, the average number of items per box shipped from U.S. sites has increased compared to the same period in 2023, thereby reducing the number of shipments needed.

Conclusion

Amazon's impressive growth in same-day and next-day deliveries reflects its commitment to enhancing customer satisfaction and supporting independent sellers. With innovative strategies such as regionalizing delivery networks and utilizing machine learning for inventory management, Amazon continues to set new benchmarks in the logistics industry.
